VP of Hardware and Process Development
Scanalytics is a materials science and spatial data company backed by the US Department of Energy that develops technology to expand the utility of physical buildings while reducing their contribution to global emissions.
Our floor sensor and software system is designed to address critical building challenges like energy waste, security, safety, and high-resolution analytics. We are based in Wisconsin and require periodic in-office and in-the-field collaboration.
We are looking for a VP of Hardware and Process Development to support the design, testing, and evolution of critical hardware components and systems along with their manufacturing process and government collaborations.
What to Expect
The Hardware Team is responsible for architecting, designing, validating, and integrating state-of-the-art sensing system and subsystem technologies across the entire Scanalytics portfolio of offerings. The sensors that we develop will be produced through a high-volume mass manufacturing process (both in-line and standalone) and installed across a variety of commercial buildings and physical environments. As the VP of Hardware you will be responsible for the overall performance of the sensing systems and their features at any point in the product life cycle, serve as the owner of any given system to address any issues discovered from development through deployment, understand and debug hardware and software interactions from prototyping through installation, manage priorities, and support a host of projects simultaneously. Additionally, this position will oversee manufacturing process development for roll-to-roll electronics, grant capturing, and direct collaboration with government laboratories.
What You’ll Do
Collaborate: Lead cross-functional sensor system and subsystem design discussions with software, manufacturing, data science, and vendor teams
Architect: Translate sensor system design discussions into design documents in the form of system block diagrams, functional and performance requirement
Design: Use design tools (EDA tools, etc.) to define the electrical component and their connectivity
Layout: Supervise the generation of board design files through all design phases
Specify: Work with engineering leadership to ensure components will meet performance, cost, and manufacturing requirements
Prototype: Support early system prototype development to de-risk new technologies or systems
Validate: Generate and execute any test plans to accelerate time from prototype to production
Qualify: Ensure hardware meets required design criteria across a host of environments and regulations while collaborating with the Flooring and Materials team
Produce: Work with manufacturing partners and suppliers to achieve high-voilume mass production with high yield
Requirements
Strong understanding of analog and digital circuits
Ability to tackle open-ended challenges using first-principles thinking
Basic programming ability (Python, Assembly and C are a bonus)
Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Thorough understanding of sensor physics and statistics
Thorough understanding of sensor reading visualization tools
Hands-on experience in system-level design, architecture, and validation
Proficiency with EE lab tools like oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.
Bonus:
Embedded programming of microcontrollers, FPGAs, etc.
Thorough understanding of mechanical design fundamentals
Experience in high-volume mass production
Experience with large-format printed sensors
Experience writing and supporting grants
Experience working and managing suppliers and contract manufacturers
Experience with force, pressure, and/or switch sensors
Hands-on experience with bleeding-edge materials such as PEDOT:PSS and nascent processes such as printed diodes
Compensation and Benefits
Competitive salary and stock options
